Residential Care

The council has a total of three residential units for young people which provide accommodation and care for young people aged (usually) between 12 and 18 who cannot remain at home with their families for a variety of reasons.

• Where possible, young people will be allowed contact with their family.
• All young people will be involved in a 'care plan' which sets out how they will be cared for in the unit and also which school they will attend.
• All young people will have a room of their own.

The aims of the services are:

• to provide residential care and support for as long as necessary (and also on a respite basis) to young people who can no longer stay at home
• to help them improve and develop family and other relationships
• to help with education and other areas of need
• to advise and support families if necessary
• to staff the residential units with appropriately qualified people
• to offer access to independent advice or support if required
• to work with young people and their families to help them return home or to live independently
